Second of four pieces of Escape from Society. This piece is looking at femininity through the ages. I know this is taking on a broad subject but I really wanted to throw a flamboyant man into the mix because Gay rights is something I've been noticing more and more. From left to right: women's rights to vote, Black rights, and gay rights. I really hope I don't offed anyone....
This one took me three straight days (from the time I got up from the time I went to bed) to get done. Most of the painting was done with a tiny tiny brush (size 0) and crazy hatching and layering.
Over all, I'm pretty proud of the craft but I think I could have pushed the concept a bit more...

interesting fact that this just made me think of:
the gay rights movement really got started in June of 1969 with the Stonewall Riots in New York City.
exactly a year later the first pride marches were held.

it's amazing how far we've come this last century. things are still changing and i hope to be some small part of that. the light of truth and reason will win out against any bigot eventually, all it takes is time.

A fact I over looked when making this piece! Thank you for the correction. I was trying to find a general progression between when women's rights started becoming an issue to today's problems with people not accepting gays and their rights. When I thought of the 50's and 60's, I thought about the black movement for rights. Factoring in women still fighting for their rights, black women had it pretty tough in those days. The 80's and 90's seemed like the right place to start for Gay rights because that's when people really started looking at it as an issue, mostly because of the out break of AID's.
For this piece I wanted to really push the idea of feminism and what it means today. Does it mean that Men are more feminine than woman?
I'm originally from Memphis, TN so bigotry and ignorance is something that I grew up with. Doesn't mean I agree, it just means that's what I had to deal with daily. When I went to school in Minnesota, everything got turned upside down for me and I had to learn to be careful that I didn't accidentally say or do the wrong thing. This was an interesting piece to look into before I started it and sadly a lot of people just brush it off b/c I believe it may be too subtle. But it is something that I experienced and am very curious about!
Thanks again for the comment! Sorry for the long reply!

i didn't mean it as a correction, just a fact. like all movements, the gay rights movement took some time to gain momentum and all that has just come to a head in the last 20 years or so.

for years i was one of the bigots. i'm happy to say that i'm no longer so naive or brainwashed but up until i was about 15 i wouldn't have hesitated to tell someone that they were going to hell if they didn't get saved and stop being gay. i'm not at all proud of that. there are still comments written by me on some old YouTube videos where i defend the bible. now i'm an atheist and in a relationship with another guy. life's interesting brand irony never ceases to amaze me.
